Hawaiian Shamanism

Hawaii Beach

My shamanic path has taken me many places, within and without!   I’ve learned how the Peruvian shaman creates sacred space, how the Siberian shaman clears a room, how the Native American shaman calls the spirits, how the Celtic shaman journeys in a canoe…

Two years ago, I was honored and blessed to take part in a Hawaiian Shamanism workshop with Larry Kessler.  Since then, I have become a devotee of this amazing discipline!

My path has at its foundation the concept of unconditional love (UL).  The worldview of the Hawaiian shaman, for me, embraces UL at its core.  I have found it one of the most freeing and empowering shamanic disciplines on the planet!

Huna and Hawaiian Shamanism

To me, these are 2 concepts that overlap but also have their individual purposes.   For me, Huna is largely Hawaiian spirituality interpreted using modern psychological concepts, the documentation of such often attributed to Max Freedom Long’s work.

Hawaiian Shamanism is the practical application of these spiritual principles.  When I stand near the ocean and belt out a Hawaiian chant calling in Kane, I am doing so much as the ancient practitioners did centuries ago.

I embrace both Huna and Hawaiian Shamanism in my practice, finding them both unique and complementary.

Larry Kessler will be bringing us another workshop in November:

The Secret Teachings of Hawaii – The Secrets of the Ancestors with Larry Kessler, M.A.

The Hawaiians, like many other shamanic cultures, honored and worked closely with their ancestors (aumakua). They believed we are intimately linked to the ancestors and that they actively take part in our lives. Although the ancestors can be responsible for issues, stuck conditions, negative emotions, and illnesses, one of the secrets is that they can be healed. And when we heal the ancestors, we heal the entire lineage, ourselves, and our children. So come and enjoy being with a group of friendly, like-minded people who are curious about discovering their ancestors and learning more about The Secret Teachings of Hawaii.”

Dates: November 14 & 15 from 10AM to 6PM in Seattle

Cost: $225 If paid before October 1; $250 if paid by November 1; $275 if paid at the door.

About Larry Kessler: Ki’iolani (Larry Kessler, M.A.) was made an alakai (teacher) of Huna by the kupua Kiaina’auaomaikalani over twelve years ago. He was initiated into a lineage of kahunas that extends from Daddy Bray back twenty generations before Kamehameha. Spending over ten years in Hawaii, he further worked with Papa Henry and Uncle George Naope of Hawaii, Papa Kahlua of Oahu, and John Kaimikaua of Molokai. He now teaches workshops on Hawaiian Shamanism around the country and has a private practice in Long Beach, CA.

Christine Wallace is sponsoring Larry’s workshop here in Seattle. Christine is a full time shamanic healer and certified Firewalk instructor who has studied with both indigenous and core shamanic teachers since 1998.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
